2016 WISCONSIN SCHOLASTIC CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Official State Scholastic Championships!

March 19-20

Reeve Memorial Union & Gruenhagen Conference Center

UW-Oshkosh

Format:  Six sections to choose from!  The Varsity I, Varsity II and Varsity III sections are five person team, team Swiss events with 5 rounds.  The Junior Varsity (K-12), K-8 and K-5 are individual 6 round Swiss events.  In all sections team and individual trophies and medals will be awarded!  Special team formation rules apply.  Note that the varsity sections are not based on school size but rather strength of team.

Site:  Varsity and JV -Reeve Memorial Union.  K-8 and K-5 – Gruenhagen Conference Center.  Food is available in the Union’s MarketPlace on the first floor.  Participants may lodge at Gruenhagen Conference Center, a four minute walk from Reeve Union, for $40 in a single or double full service room or for $30 in a single or double student service room.  Reserve rooms early and directly with Gruenhagen at 920-424-1106 as only one tower is available.

Entry Fee:  If received by March 12, $17.  If received by March 18, $21.  At site is $25.  See the full flyer for the entry form.

Ratings?:  While the event is not a US Chess Federation membership required event, USCF ratings will be used for pairing purposes if the player has one.  Other ratings not used.

Time Control:  Depending on section and day, the time control is either Game in 90 minutes or Game in 60 minutes.  See full flyer for details.

Friday & Saturday Night Fun:  includes a simultaneous exhibition by two time state champion Bryan Lilly Saturday night and a Friday night blitz and Saturday night bughouse tournament sponsored by the Waupaca High School Chess Club.

Bookstore:  Luke Ludwig will have his supply of chess books, CD’s and equipment for sale all weekend.
